Got a baby on the way? Seize your chance to escape for a babymoon getaway, before it's too late. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that pregnant women travel between weeks 14 and 28, but it's up to you and your doctor to decide the best time to travel. Here are several ideas for great babymoon destinations in the U.S.
Beach babymoons promise the chance to kick back and soak away your stress. Look for a resort that offers special amenities for mothers-to-be. The Four Seasons Palm Beach, for instance, has a babymoon package that includes a prenatal massage, special pillow in your room and a $100 dinner credit. In Massachusetts, the Cape Codder resort offers a babymoon package with dual facials and massages, a pedicure, chocolates and non-alcoholic sparkling wine.
Once you hit that second trimester, you'll be ravenous. Make the most of your newfound appetite by planning your babymoon as a foodie vacation. Classic Southern destinations include Charleston and New Orleans. Napa Valley offers fresh California cuisine. Or, for an all-you-can-eat rampage, some moms-to-be recommend the sumptuous buffets of Las Vegas.
Once baby arrives, he or she will claim all the kisses and snuggles in your household. Enjoy some quality time with your partner with a babymoon that offers the chance to just be together. Instead of a mega-resort, consider a small lodge or B and B, such as the Chanric Inn in Napa Valley, which one babymooner praised for cooking her a special pregnancy-friendly meal. The White Cedar Inn in Freeport, Maine includes whimsical touches like a jar of dill pickles and a certificate for Ben and Jerry's ice cream. And the Lavender Inn in Ojai, California, offers a private session with a doula/lactation counselor.
There's no rule that says you have to put your feet up during your babymoon. If you're active by nature and feeling good, why not plan a more active vacation? Hawaii is a popular babymoon destination, not only for the beaches but for the hiking and camping. For an urban escape, there's always New York City - a city that offers abundant opportunities to eat well, sightsee and shop for special things for your little one.
A babymoon doesn't have to be one big, expensive vacation. You can achieve the same goal - savoring time with your partner - with one or two weekend trips close to your hometown. Affordable babymoon ideas include picking a small town you've always wanted to visit or an attraction that's a day's drive away. Some moms-to-be say they went to the home of their parents or close friends for a weekend, where they enjoyed home cooking and just hanging out.
